Xiong became a FIDE master after winning the World U10 Championship held in Halkidiki in Greece in 2010. He was the runner-up to Jason Cao in the World Youth Championship (2012) U12 category. He won his IM norms at the 4th Annual Golden State Open in January 2013, the 2013 UT Dallas Spring FIDE Open sponsored by Turner Construction in March 2013 and at the 7th Annual Philadelphia Open a couple of weeks later. He reached the requisite 2400 rating on 22 March 2014 when he beat Darwin Yang in round 4 of the 2014 DCC FIDE Open II, which he won with 5/5.
In September 2014, he placed =1st at the 2014 Dallas Open alongside Alejandro Ramirez-Alvarez and Milos M Pavlovic.
His rating on 1 November 2014 was 2467 making him the 2nd ranked U14 in the world after compatriot Samuel Sevian.
